Kay Nickols Visits Pieces & Patches

Michigan Quilter and Author Kay Nickols visited our guild on Monday, May 18, 2015.  She taught a workshop during the day and then presented    "Not One, But Two Trunk Shows" in the evening.  She is famous for her books and patterns that feature the use of one border fabric to make an entire quilt in her books

MYSTERY QUILTS 2015

Our Mystery Quilt Reveal was

The pattern for the Mystery Quilts this year was designed by Debbie Caffrey and called "Undercover in Long Beach II".  The clues were given out over several months with the final reveal at our May meeting.  What a great job the participants did and have varied the results!    If you've never tried a one, maybe next time!

April's Guild Meeting - A Busy Evening

Our guild meeting on April 27, 2015 was packed with lots to see and hear, but also packed with people with 175 in attendance.  What a turn out!

The Monochromatic Challenge Projects were due this evening. The projects were made from one color family plus black and/or white, with a traditional star block in there somewhere.  The wall hanging sized quilts could be no larger than 144 in perimeter.  The criteria we considered in casting our votes were 1} best use of color 2} following the rules and 3} originality. All in attendance could vote on just one - which was really hard to do.  The top six received recognition and $$$$.

We honored guild member Janet Rochefort with a lifetime membership to our guild for her contribution to the guild and its membership in hosting speakers and providing workshop space for quilting workshops and quilt retreats at her bed and breakfast, The Hankerd Inn.  She was also given flowers for her garden and we all enjoyed a cake made in her honor!

Suzi Parron was our guest speaker with a program entitled "Barn Quilts and the American Quilt Trail Movement".  She has authored a book by the same name.  We thoroughly enjoyed her entertaining presentation and want to go home and paint a quilt block on our own barns, garages and sheds.

Our Workshop with Lenore Crawford

On Monday, March 30 twenty-five quilters had the pleasure of taking a workshop class from Lenore Crawford where we learned how to make our own fused fabric wall hanging from a photo of our choice.  Here is Lenore next to one of her pieces - a street scene in France.


 


Here is Lenore doing a demonstration of adding paint to enhance our fabric pieces by adding depth and blending of different values.

 

 

 

Lenore showed us how to use "fussy cut" pictures to add to a scene made in fabric.

Here is the photo of a dogwood blossom made in fabric using a different color family.

We got a good start on our own flower designs from our own photos, as you can see from these photos of class participants.

Lenore Crawford Visit Us on Monday, March 30, 2015

Our next Pieces and Patches Quilt Guild meeting is almost here! 

 Monday, March 30th we will have the honor of a visit from award winning quilt master Lenore Crawford with her program "Creating Your Own Art Quilt:  Fused Fabric, Painting and Stitching".  Lenore is famous for using fabric to capture the beauty of a photo, whether a flower from her mother's perennial garden or a street scene in France, for example.  We are sure to be inspired and amazed by her outstanding work.  Hope to see you!
